East Wenatchee, WA – The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning throughout Chelan and Douglas counties, which will remain in effect most of this week.

North Central Washington Libraries will operate as cooling centers during normal business hours. Visit NCW Libraries to find a location near you.

Severe heat may cause illness or even death, reduce risks by taking the following precautions:

  • Stay indoors and in an air-conditioned environment as much as possible.
  • Drink plenty of fluids but avoid beverages that contain alcohol, caffeine or a lot of sugar.
  • Never leave any person or pets in a parked vehicle.
  • Check on people who are elderly, ill or may need help.

Heat-related illnesses like heat stroke, heat exhaustion, heat cramps, sunburns and heat rashes are preventable. Seek medical attention immediately if you are experiencing severe symptoms such as high body temperature, profuse sweating, fainting, dizziness, nausea, headaches or muscle cramps.
